Because no two heads are the same (and some are more wriggly than others), we always recommend measuring both yours and your child’s head before choosing your Mummy & Me hats. Here’s how to get the best fit—for you and your mini!
Child Hat Sizing
Whether you choose a bonnet, bucket, flap hat or teddy style, each of our children's hats is thoughtfully designed to be comfortable, sun-safe and fuss-free. But the key to comfort is the right size.
How to measure:
- Distract the child with a toy or snack so they don’t try to “help”.
- Use a soft tape measure, or wrap a ribbon around their head where the hat would naturally sit—above the eyebrows, over the ears, and around the back. Then measure the ribbon against a ruler.
- Choose a size where your child’s measurement sits near the smaller end of the size range. That gives you the most room to grow.
Many of our child hats—including the Lounger, Explorer, Wanderer, Sightseer, and Roamer—have adjustable crown ties, giving you flexibility and a snug fit for longer wear.
For example: If your child’s head measures 51cm, the 50–54cm hat is the perfect choice. If it’s closer to 53cm, you may wish to size up to the 54–58cm and use the crown ties to adjust.
Note: Our Seeker and Searcher Bonnets do not have crown ties, so it’s best to choose the size that most closely matches your child’s current head size for the most secure fit.
Adult Hat Sizing
Our adult hats (Vacationer Sun Hat, Voyager Visor, and Traveller Bucket Hat) are all adjustable—because even though your head might not be growing, how you wear your hair (and how much you have!) can make a big difference to the fit.
How to measure:
- Use a fabric tape measure or ribbon and wrap it around where a hat would sit: mid-forehead, just above the ears, and around the base of your skull.
- If using ribbon, pinch where it meets, lay it flat and measure with a ruler.
- Choose a size where your measurement sits just above the smallest number in the range.
For example: A head measurement of 54cm fits best in a 52–56cm size. If you’re between sizes, opt for the larger one and adjust for a comfy fit.
Wearing your hair down or in curls? You may prefer sizing up for a roomier fit—especially if you’re working with ponytails, buns or volume!

Don't stress - we accept returns of new unworn items with tags still attached for the exchange of a different size/style or refund if required. You must contact us within 30 days of purchase to organise a return.
